    9月13日,美国著名杂志us news & world report（《美国新闻与世界报道》简称us news）发布了2012年美国最佳大学排名（america’s best colleges）。usnews美国大学排名作为最权威性的大学排名之一,具有重要的参考价值。

    usnews美国大学排名及指标体系

    usnews从1983年开始,每年都会给过去一年的美国大学做全面排名,我们现在看到的2012us news美国大学排名是基于对2011年的数据分析得来的。排名囊括了几大分类,包括综合性大学排名,综合性学院排名,专业分项排名,学院排名等。专业排名根据开设学校的多寡,排名数量也不尽相同,比如计算机专业有前50的排名,而金融专业由于不是每个学校都开设,大概只有10名左右的排名。学院排名又包括了商学院、法学院、工学院等学院排名,整个排名系统很繁杂,不一而足。

    那usnews根据什么因素来决定学校排名的先后顺序呢？usnews有专门的指标体系的去衡量学校的排名。usnews一般设立5--7项指标：

    学术声誉：学术声誉通过对校长、教务长、招生主任进行调查而量化出结果,包括有多少人获得诺贝尔奖等世界性大奖,学校每年发表多少学术论文、学术专著等,这些都是反映一所学校教学水平,学术能力的重要考察项目。调查表明,声誉高的学校大部分是那些入学标准高、财源丰富、师资力量强的学校。由此可知,学术声誉一般能反映学校的实际学术水平,因此,此项权重最大,达到25％。

    保持率（retention）：主要指四年内读完学士学位的学生占学生总数的百分比。大部分著名院校通过为学生提供特别的指导和经济援助,学生一般在入学后四年内能够毕业,但一般院校却做不到这些。

    师资状况：此项指标主要通过班组规模、师资薪酬、师资学位、生师比、全日制师资比等指标来反映。

    学生选择：主要指入学录取标准,这是衡量学生素质的重要尺度。入学录取标准是以录取率、学术能力测试（scholastic aptitude test）或美国大学测验评估（american college testing assessment）的平均成绩,以及高中时在班级中的名次等几项指标来综合评定的。

    财务状况：主要用以衡量学校在学生学业成功方面的作用,以及这种作用的发挥效能等。此项指标是以教育费用和其他费用等要素来综合评定的3002

    另外,还有校友捐赠比率、附加值等指标。

    从以上指标体系可看出,该刊排行所采用的数据资料由主观和客观两部分组成。主观性资料主要是指与高校声誉调查有关的数据；客观性资料主要是由各个院校自己提供统计资料,然后,由专门人员适当对照学院委员会联合会等的调查,对统计结果加以补充、修正。如果不能得到适当的数据,该刊就利用已有的与所缺条目相关性极高的数据资料进行估算、统计,如保持率与毕业率相关性极高。如果实在不能做出恰当的估计,就取同类高校（如全国性大学）此项得分的平均值代替。

    2012 usnews最新排名变化

    2012 年usnews的大学排名中,top 20 的大学排名和往年相比没有显著变化,排名中,前十历年变动不大。2011年排行榜哈佛大学独占鳌头,而2012年普林斯顿大学重新与哈佛并驾齐驱,并列第一,芝加哥大学连跳3级,与加州理工、麻省理工、斯坦福和宾大并列第五。达特茅斯学院从去年的top10 稍微有跌落,排名第 11。公立大学中,仅有三所公立大学入选top25,分别为加州大学伯克利分校（21）、加州大学洛杉矶分校（25）和弗吉尼亚大学（25）,而密歇根安娜堡则位列28。

    本站几所友好合作院校今年排名也有较好的上升,佛罗里达的迈阿密大学,从去年的 47 位蹿升到与凯斯西储并列的38,也是历史上首次迈阿密大学首度挤进top40。uiuc和德州奥斯汀两所受中国学生家长青睐的名校依然屈居45；而波士顿东北大学延续了连续好几年的火箭式上升势头,由去年的69稳步上升到与普渡、雪城等并列的62。

    另外,伦斯勒理工则从41位跌到50。乔治华盛顿大学和杜兰大学名次稍有上升,冲入top50。南卫理公会大学和乔治亚大学则跌出前60,而去年排名69 的康涅狄格大学排名有较大提升,今年位列 58。俄亥俄州的迈阿密大学牛津分校则从去年的 79 继续下滑,今年排名 90。纽约州立大学系统(suny)中今年只有宾汉姆顿大学、环境科学与林业科学学院保持了原先的位次,而石溪分校跌落出前 100,但是还是与布法罗、阿尔巴尼分校获得不错的排名,这也反映了纽约州立大学系统的高品质学术水平

    很显然,usnews的指标体系令这份排名变得更为相对客观,而且,top50的学校的排名也相对稳定。然而,60名开外的学校的排名变化还是很大的,会出现学校前进10名左右的情况。主要原因是生源的不稳定,因为中国已经是美国留学的最大生源国,而中国学生一般不会选择排名60后的学校,给这些学校造成了冲击。
