作为美国久享盛誉的名校,哈佛大学的建筑学研究已经形成了浓厚的专业和学术氛围,组建了规模庞大的设计学研究生院（graduate school of design）,下设建筑学（architecture）、景观建筑学（landscape architecture）和城市规划设计（urban planning & design）三大系别,为申请者提供硕士和博士学位。

　　哈佛大学设计学研究生院提供的硕士学位包括以下方向：

　　学院同时为有志于从事建筑学学术研究的申请者提供了设计学博士和建筑学博士两种博士学位。

　　申请者需要提交的材料有：在线提交的申请表格,75美元申请费,官方本科成绩单,3封推荐信,个人简历和申请文书,gre和toefl成绩（申请不动产管理和项目管理硕士时可以提交gmat成绩）。此外,除了城市规划硕士的申请者,所有人都必须提交过去设计的建筑作品集（portfolio）。

　　申请建筑学硕士的截止日期是12月14日,该专业作品集截止的最后期限是1月2日。而景观建筑学硕士、城市规划和设计学硕士、设计学博士的最后截止日期是1月18日。

 据美国媒体报道,拥有7名成员的哈佛理事会11日选举该校历史学家德鲁·吉尔平·福斯特为哈佛第28任校长。现年59岁的福斯特意识到了她出任哈佛校长的意义。她在当日举行的一个新闻发布会上说：我希望我的任命能成为一个机会均等的象征,这是上一代人还难以想象的事情。我不是哈佛女校长,我是哈佛校长。福斯特是哈佛大学拉德克利夫高等研究院的院长,此前从未领导过大型学府。拉德克利夫高等研究院也是哈佛目前最小的学院,前身是哈佛女子学院,学院资助的大部分研究也主要集中在女性、性别和社会问题方面。
       尽管福斯特缺乏管理大型学术机构的经验,但哈佛大学负责挑选校长的专门委员会认为,她是一名优秀管理人员,拥有卓越的人际处理能力。福斯特的同事认为,福斯特善于处理同事关系,这点与哈佛前校长劳伦斯·萨默斯有很大差别。《纽约时报》说,由于萨默斯声称女性在数学等领域不如男性,他在学校引起众人愤慨。萨默斯两年前曾向福斯特求助,希望她出面平息众人怒火。萨默斯还要求福斯特帮助创造新机制,在数学、工程学及自然科学领域招募、留用女性,并为她们提供晋升机会。
