　　1. 看几个数据

　　第一、有个表是讲 “country of origin” 的,即每个国家有多少人申请,有多少人被录取,这个跟录取机率有关系。如果你不想要奖,看这个表就够了。

　　这个要弄清楚比较难,但是如果得到一些信息的话会大有帮助。比较有典型的是南加大,北大的巨多。其组织传播方向的博士生6个中有5个是北大英语系的。一般来讲,如果你的毕业学校和专业在国内有些名气,在国际上也多少会有些校友的存在,他们在其院校,就一般规律来看表现得是不错的,那么你申请同样的学校和专业,比一个对你的毕业院校和专业一无所知的地方要好。有个典型的例子是人大有个老师在american university站住了脚,他就老招人大的毕业生。而人大有个毕业生在圣地亚哥拿了奖学金就跑回国,接着申请了,极大的伤害了圣地亚哥大学人民的感情,该校以后恐怕会对人大的申请人退避三舍了。另外讲一个有趣的例子。沃顿商学院每年招的中国申请人达40个以上,是其他顶尖商学院的2-4倍。我最初非常不解,后来从一个朋友那里得知,该商学院主管招生的副院长娶了个漂亮的上海妻子,感情不错,也喜欢上海的小菜,所以对勤劳勇敢的中国人民有着特殊的感情。
